The greatest franchise of all time is due to return globally, if the words of a series producer are anything to go by. Speaking to Japanese outlet 4Gamer, Medabots producer Unohee stated that they wish to utilize their Vampire Survivors-like title, Medabots Survivors to garner a wider global fan base and eventually "to make Medarot soaring around the world..." Medarot is the series' Japanese name, and the awkward structure of that sentence is a result of using Google translate on the original Japanese interview. Unohee implies that the immense popularity of the "survivor-like" genre is something they can capitalize on, and that he wanted to try something new and unfamiliar with the series.
Medabots was a relatively popular franchise in the West in the early 2000s; with an anime series, toys, some video games on Nintendo consoles and a limited manga series. As the series experienced waning popularity, we no longer received new series releases in the West, but the series did continue in its native Japan. The series eventually received compilation releases on the Nintendo Switch and popular mobile games, but even if Imagineer (Medabots' publisher) wanted to bring the series back globally, there was a bizarre issue that arose. The trademark for Medabots was picked up by a random man in Europe who used the trademark to make a horrific NFT mobile game. I'll link a comprehensive Reddit post that broke down the nature of this legal nightmare. Wonderfully though, this person was eventually challenged in court and Imagineer won, which is what set the groundwork for this much anticipated return.
I've purged my social media accounts, but if you were friends with me on Twitter (my handle was _RuneScimitar,) you know that I was talking about Medabots constantly. I met several Western Medabots fans, and a Japanese Medabots fan who were all lobbying like I was to see the series return worldwide. We messaged Imagineer incessantly, expressing our undying devotion. We've held the banner high, and for decades; an old guard of Medafighters "robattling" for our rights and for freedom.

While Medabots Survivors isn't the type of game that I'm interested in, you best believe that I'll be there to show my financial support. Imagineer needs to know that there's fertile ground beyond Japan for the franchise to blossom larger than it ever was. They also have easily accessible new games/releases that can be localized, if they find that it's a wise move for them to expand westward. They recently released compilations of all of the Game Boy/Game Boy Color/Game Boy Advance games for the Nintendo Switch, obviously only for the Japanese market, but I long to see those release in the United States. There's also an incredible looking mobile game, Medabots S: Unlimited Nova that has had tons of insane crossovers with other classic series like Zoids and Digimon.
For now, I will remain atop the parapet, bearing the Medabots banner high for all to see. I long to see it return, and I will welcome the influx of new and returning fans. As long as you weirdos don't try to ruin it like you do with everything else nowadays.
