The iconic Final Fantasy franchise is en route to the increasingly ubiquitous Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It looks to be set to fulfill quite a deal of fan service, with diverse and varied Commander cards and spells, and some collector cards boasting gorgeous artwork by series' mainstays Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshitaka Amano.
About via Magic: The Gathering
The beloved FINAL FANTASY RPG series' sixteen mainline games of unforgettable characters, items, and moments are now here in Magic: The Gathering! Cast powerful spells, call upon classic summons, and even visit your favorite locations on the back of a chocobo. Countless elements from the games are here for you to weave together your own story!
There are four standard Commander Decks announced, starring various icons of the Final Fantasy franchise: Terra from Final Fantasy VI, Cloud from Final Fantasy VII, Tidus from Final Fantasy X and Y'shtola from Final Fantasy XIV. There are also Collector's Edition versions of each of these Commander Decks. The same condition applies for the booster packs as well. A few bundles of varying relatively steep costs are also available. I've got my eyes on the $20 Starter Set, complete with two decks that seem to be Cloud and Sephiroth themed. More information is available for each of these items on the official website.
On a final note, I see that my favorite Final Fantasy character, Cecil, the protagonist of Final Fantasy IV, has a beautifully illustrated card that features both his iconic dark knight and paladin designs. This card is number one on my list to find. There are plenty of other incredible looking creature and character cards that I recommend checking out.
