Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Steam Page Reveals AI Generated Content

Thanks to Steam's new AI policy, it has been officially revealed that AI has was used to generate some assets in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

This was previously speculated late last year when some of the event artwork didn't appear "quite right." Characters having extra fingers, awkward looking images in general, and other art assets that could easily be created using AI rather than a human artist.

Due to Steam's new policy, which requires developers to disclose any time an AI was used in game development, the following statement was added to the Black Ops 6 Steam Page:

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in game assets.

While this does not directly state what was or was not AI generated, it strongly suggests that previous speculation was in fact correct.

Despite the use of AI, this doesn't mean that Black Ops 6 doesn't employ human artists as well. In fact, many who have worked on the game's animations and artwork have been quick to show off their work over the last few months. Still, this has many people asking the simple question of: why even use AI at all?

So, how do you feel about this? Does it change your feelings about the game at all? Or are you fine with AI being used for "smaller" aspects of the game? Feel free to let us know in the comments below.
