During today's announcement, Nintendo gave us the first look at the possible upcoming Mario Kart 9.
This is a game which has been rumored to be in production for quite some time, and now we have an idea of what it might look like.
So today, I wanted to take a quick moment to dive into the trailer, and go over some of the details we can physically see. None of this has been officially confirmed, but visually shown within the trailer. That being said, some of this could change for a final release, or it could simply be a concept. The name Mario Kart 9 is also not confirmed, and could possibly be changed. Previously rumors of a "Smash Bros" styled Mario Kart were circulating, but these too remain as rumors until officially confirmed.
That being said, here are a few details we here at Netto's Game Room noticed about the game!
24 Player Races
One of the first details you can see in the trailer is what appears to be 24 start lines on the track. This suggests that the next entry will have 24 Player Races, but that number could always be more or less for the final release. This is double the amount of racers Mario Kart 8 allowed online, so is a significant increase if true.
Character List
While the video is quick, by slowing it down we can gain additional insight to which characters are included in the game. A few of them are hard to make out, but ones that can be clearly seen are as follows:
Mario
Bowser
Peach
Daisy
Rosalina
Toad
Toadette
Donkey Kong
Yoshi
Wario
Waluigi
Baby Mario
Baby Luigi
Baby Peach
Baby Daisy
A character who looks like Koopa is visible as well, but it is possible this is actually Baby Luigi. Keep in mind that this list is not officially confirmed.
Besides appearing in the game, each character model has seemingly been rebuilt from the ground up, with characters such as Mario himself taking on an appearance similar to what was seen in Super Mario Bros Wonder. Donkey Kong also looks a bit more like his Super Mario Bros Movie self.
Yoshi's
As a bonus, the new desert stage has a diner simply called Yoshi's. This isn't the first time Yoshi has been featured in something food related, as a puzzle game titled Yoshi's Cookies released back in 1992, and featured a similar logo.
And that about covers it for now! The video is quick with only a handful of details being shown off, but most iconic Mario Kart features were on display. This includes drifting, boosting, and customized karts and bikes, but no zero gravity was on display here.
Once more information becomes available, we will be covering here, so please stay tuned!
