TOHO has announced that the hit indie walking simulator The Exit 8 will be receiving a movie adaptation.
Currently information about the project is limited, but the newly released trailer shows off the hallway that all Exit 8 players will be familiar with.
We here at Netto's Game Room previously reviewed the title, which has both a standard and VR version. The game is pretty simple overall, but has an element of horror to it. To put it simply, you walk through a hallway, check to see if anything is strange or out of the ordinary, and if it is you turn back.
According to the developer of The Exit 8, they too didn't know how a game with no story could be turned into a movie, but they are impressed with how it is turning out. Here is the full quote after being ran through a translator.
“Exit 8” will be made into a live-action movie! I had no idea that the game would be released at the end of November 2023, and that the movie version would be announced about a year later, so I am filled with surprise and gratitude. When I was approached about making a movie, I was wondering how to turn a game without a story into a movie, but it turned out to be an interesting movie without destroying the worldview and atmosphere of Exit 8. I think so! I also got to tour the filming location, and it was really amazing to see that underground passage and the old man right in front of me! We hope you look forward to it! I'm also really looking forward to the release!
