Favorite Games from Previous Years we enjoyed in 2024

Tales of Berseria

Every year we here at Netto's Game Room like to take a look back at what we would consider our own personal Game of the Year. There were a lot of great games released in 2024, but they were all coming out while many of us continued to tackle our backlogs! So instead of jumping right into what we consider our "GOTY," we figured we'd take a step back and discuss our favorite games we played, that were not released in 2024.

So without further ado, here is Netto's Game Rooms: Our Favorite Games from Previous Years we enjoyed in 2024

Jonsku: Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077. Missed out on it due to the controversy originally but got really into Cyberpunk lore this year and wanted to give it a shot after everyone said it was fixed. It is a good game now and has a strong story.

GlacialLeaf: Mega Man X DiVE Offline

Sonic X Shadow Generations! It counts since it’s a remake of a game that came out in 2011, right!?

Due to life complications, I didn’t really get to experience too many older games this year, but the one that surprisingly did hook me was Mega Man X DiVE Offline.

It’s not a perfect Mega Man game by any means - physics can be a bit wonky, weapons are pretty much automatic and easy to cheese, story can be quite stupid, and you need to go outside of the game to find a list of when each event took place in order to play them by release date. Some of the characters in the game also make the game a breeze.

But it was honestly great fun to control; to try new characters and weapons; to see where the story would progress; to get to see glimpses of Sigma before he was infected by the Wily virus; to just get more Mega Man, and without the grind and horrible monetization the online version introduced.

When I finally finished the game, I was honestly left wanting more. And is there anything else that can make us feel like we loved a game?

Ben: Tales of Destiny DC

This one really isn’t easy for me. I played so many great games this year that didn’t come out this year; however, I think I’ll have to go with something a bit unexpected. Originally I was really leaning towards the Crossbell arc in the Trails series, but instead I’ve decided to choose Tales of Destiny DC!

Tales of Destiny DC is a PlayStation 2 remake of the second entry within the Tales series, and it is a game that never officially released in English. The game was instead fan translated by Lifebottle Productions, and released as a patch for the original Japanese PS2 game. The game itself uses highly detailed 2D sprites with an updated version of the classic 2D Tales battle system. The gameplay is fun and addicting, the world is beautiful, and the spritework is simply amazing and something you do not see in Tales of since they made the switch to full 3D. But above all of that, the game’s story quickly became one of my all time favorites within the Tales series, and I loved each and every single one of the characters.

The game allowed me to take a step back into the series’ glory days, and I never wanted it to end. Something that, despite being a huge fan of the series, hasn’t happened to me since I played through Tales of Graces f back in 2012. (Heck, finishing Destiny DC is what finally gave me the motivation to finish off Tales of Berseria this year as well! And that is a game I've owned since launch.)

Anyway, I’m hoping that one day Bandai Namco will release the game officially in the West, but for the time being I am very thankful for what Lifebottle has done. It is thanks to them I finally got to experience this masterpiece, and I look forward to their future projects. They recently released their Tales of Rebirth translation, but I haven’t had time to go through it yet. That’ll be a next year project!
