Our Countdown to Christmas is nearing its end, and this time we’ve asked everyone to discuss their favorite Winter Holiday TV Show Specials!
For this one as long as it is a TV show that had an episode dedicated to one of the winter holidays, it qualifies!
Ben: Spongebob
This one is a hard call for me, because I always loved watching the Christmas specials for TV series. Shows like Friends and Frasier have some really nice Christmas episodes, and I also really enjoy the ones from The King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond. However, I think my overall favorite is one from my childhood; the very first Spongebob Christmas Special!
Not only is the episode simply fun to watch, with Spongebob trying to bring Christmas to the residents of Bikini Bottom, but it also has one of my favorite Spongebob songs! Little kid me would sing it all the time, and now even adult me still loves it.
On another note, the later Christmas Special song “Don’t Be a Jerk” is pretty great too. My wife Allison also really loves the Rugrats specials! Babies in Toyland, the Santa Experience, and of course the Passover episode! Rugrats has a lot of good specials in general, and the show itself was amazing as well.
Jonsku: Batman
Batman the animated series from the 90’s had a really memorable episode where the Joker tried to have his own special Christmas holiday (with casual murder) until Batman and Robin stopped him battling oversized joker nutcracker robots. It was ironically cozy for being such an action packed episode.
GlacialLeaf: 6teen
Either 6teen’s ‘Snow Job,’ or ‘How the Rent-A-Cop Stole Christmas.’
6teen as a whole is a really amazing show with an incredible theme song that really deserves more recognition. If I had to pick a favorite Christmas special from the ones I got to watch, it’d probably be one of these ones from this incredible show.
Snow Job is an hour long special, with some really nice drama and comedy, culminating in a really good bit of character development and a satisfying turning point to two of the characters’ relationship, and just a joy to watch.
On the other hand, How the Rent-A-Cop Stole Christmas is just flat out silly, but with a really heart-warming twist to said ‘Rent-A-Cop’s character there that just endeared the character to me, and made the entire thing worth watching.
I really wish we could get a sequel to that show. It was such a phenomenally written one.
