Countdown to Christmas: Favorite Christmas Movie

Today is Christmas Eve! In honor of the last day of our Countdown to Christmas, we have decided to take a look at our favorite Christmas movies.

Only two of us had an answer this go around, but it's okay! I personally just finished watching mine right before this post went live, as it is a Christmas tradition.

Jonsku:

It would have to be The nutcracker prince from Warner Bros. 1990! For me this movie will always be an all time classic. It had good moments (surprisingly brutal for a kids film), it had likeable characters, it had fantasy and mystery. It is what solidified the classic Nutcracker story for me as a kid.

Ben:

This one isn’t easy for me to choose, but I’m going to have to go with Christmas Vacation!

Christmas Vacation is a movie I’ve watched every single year since I was little, and I never get tired of it. I watched it at home on TV, my grandma got me the DVD one year as an early Christmas present so I switched to that version, we’d watch it in high school, and I even remember watching it on the bus on the way to a work Christmas party. In fact, the sound didn’t work in the bus but it didn’t matter! I knew the movie word for word, so I filled in the audio myself. I love the movie, and it is the one I will recommend everyone watch at least once in their life.

Of course, this isn’t a family friendly movie, but that is okay!

The uncut version has an f-bomb, middle fingers, and other crude comments, but these moments make it even funnier. The things that happen to this family in an attempt to have a “perfect Christmas” is completely over the top, and nearly every scene will be burned into your memory forever. Even something as simple as putting lights up on the house ends up becoming one of the most iconic scenes from any movie. When you think one thing is going to happen, it is usually the complete opposite!

Sure, this movie is actually a part of a series, but honestly Christmas Vacation is the one to watch out of all of them. (Plus it’s not like these movies actually follow a true chronology. The kids constantly change ages with different actors, and some parts retcon others. So Christmas Vacation is a perfect stand alone entry, and a good introduction as well.)

Merry Christmas!
