A few months ago I had the pleasure of speaking with Virginie and James, the co-founders of Vertex Zero, about their new Metroidvania game titled Silent Planet. The game caught my eye instantly, and with little information available at the time, I was excited to learn more about the project.
A couple of weeks ago Virginie reached out, and let me know of an upcoming announcement. She couldn't tell me exactly what it was, but I was excited to be able to share the news when the time came. Well, that time is now!
Vertex Zero has officially announced they will be partnering with Red Dunes Games. As a publisher, they will be releasing the game on PC via Steam in 2026, and is currently being featured in Steam's Scream Fest 2024.
In our previous interview the developers expressed interest in bringing the game to other platforms as well; however these plans are not final.
After the announcement I reached back out to Vertex Zero to learn a bit more about the new partnership deal. Here is what they had to say:
Hello again Virginie and James! It's been quite some time since our interview. I believe three months? How have you been doing since then? It sounds like you've been pretty busy!
Hi Ben! We’ve been pretty busy indeed!
So you've just announced that you will be partnering with Red Dunes Games to publish Silent Planet. Could you tell us a little bit more about that or how that partnership came about?
While we were already in talks with a few publishers, Sultan, the head of Red Dunes Games, approached us and expressed great interest in Silent Planet. Then, after our first meeting, we knew they were the right choice, as we share the same vision and passion for retro games.
I must say, Sultan has impressive knowledge of games, books, and movies—and his team does as well. It’s great to engage with people who speak the same artistic language and who are driven by the same ideas.
I noticed a little detail with your logo in the newest teaser trailer. It appears the game has a subtitle now? Elegy of a Dying World. I personally really like the sound of that! It implies that we are in for a sad story. Is there anything about the name that you can reveal at this time?
The subtitle suggests that the world we will explore is steeped in desolation and loss. This aligns with the themes of existential dread and nihilism at the core of Silent Planet. It also highlights the inevitability of death, underscoring the fragility of life and the relentless struggle to overcome it.
Since we last spoke, how has development been coming along? Has anything majorly changed since our last conversation, or has any new features that have been incorporated?
We have been refining core gameplay design elements and developing visuals to bring the world of Silent Planet to life (creatures, locations, etc.)
Is there anything else you'd like to let the world know about Silent Planet?
We would like to thank everyone who has been supporting us for the past year. Although it was difficult for us to overcome so many obstacles, it is the support and the encouragement from our fans which kept us going.
And finally, for fun... We've been running a Halloween event here at Netto's Game Room over the last month, and we are curious. What would you say are your all-time favorite horror movies, and what makes you love them so much?
James:
Vampyr (1932): This is a movie really close to my heart since it employs surrealism and innovative sound techniques to create a haunting vision of the vampire mythos.
The Thing (1982): This is a movie which is known for its eerie sense of claustrophobia and psychological tension, as well as its foreboding score and grotesque creature designs. It became my favourite the very moment I watched it for the first time.
Virginie:
1408 (2007): This underrated movie is such an intense ride. I love how the hotel room evolves, trapping the character in increasingly unsettling ways. Psychological horror really gets to me!
Color Out of Space (2019): This is a new film based on H.P. Lovecraft’s short story, and I adore the visuals that depict how the color affects the environment, creating a pervasive sense of unease throughout.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016): I find the premise of this film so intriguing! The actress who played Jane Doe delivered a phenomenal performance.
