The final nail in the coffin for LittleBigPlanet 3 is here. Sony has officially announced that LittleBigPlanet 3 and all of its DLC will be removed from the PlayStation Store on October 31st.
While this may come as a shock to some, fans who have been playing LittleBigPlanet 3 have been expecting this for quite some time. The game initially released in a glitched filled state, with improper content transfers from the first two entries, and many other issues. These issues were ultimately never corrected, which made it hard for fans and creators alike to keep up with the game.
Along with the issues, the Japanese servers, and all Japanese content, was shut down and removed only a handful of years after the game's launch. This was followed by a complete server shutdown in 2018, making LittleBigPlanet 3 an offline only game.
Although LittleBigPlanet 3 has a "single player mode" and local co-op mode, the story is mainly there to show players what the game's tools can accomplish. LittleBigPlanet is a game building game, that allows players to create nearly anything they can imagine within the engine. Of course there are limitations, but those who got creative could make something truly great. Once this aspect of the game shut down however, the game became an empty shell.
Now with LittleBigPlanet 3 being delisted from the PlayStation Store, only those who previously purchased the game, or have bought a physical copy will be able to continue to play it. All offline modes will continue to work, which includes the offline level editor, but newcomers would need to track down a physical copy if they would like to check out this series. LittleBigPlanet, LittleBigPlanet 2, LittleBigPlanet PSP, and LittleBigPlanet Vita are also all offline, so this news effectively spells the end for the current series.
Meanwhile Sackboy's Big Adventure is a single player and online 3D platforming adventure, and will continue as usual.
