Bandai Namco has announced Freedom Wars Remastered, an enhanced HD version of the classic "hunting" styled game, for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC!
Set to release on 1/10/2025, the game is an HD remaster of the original Freedom Wars which was previously developed as a PlayStation Vita exclusive. The game was co-developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Dimps, and Shift, which is the developer behind the God Eater series.
The game itself is a "hunting" style game, where players create a unique avatar, and are sent into missions where they must take down giant foes. In Freedom War's case, these giants have captured innocent civilians, and players must not only take down the enemies, but also carry those they save back to a safe point.
By using their "Thron," players can fling themselves into the air, and pull off a variety of combos based on their weapon type. To help them, helper androids are assigned to each player (and can be customized), but the game also features online co-op. Androids themselves can be captured and taken away, so it's important to pay attention, and take down enemies as fast as possible.
As for the remaster, Dimps is taking the lead on the project, while Shift is not being credited. According to the rough translation from the Japanese PlayStation Blog, Dimps is currently in ownership of the IP, which was previously in Sony's hands.

FREEDOM WARS REMASTERED brings enhancements such as 4K resolution, upgraded textures, 60fps performance on PlayStation and PC, an overhauled weapon crafting system, added difficulty settings and other game play upgrades. In gameplay that stays true to the widely acclaimed original, players must venture forth into combat to survive. Fortunately, they are given Thorn weapons to help traverse the world and subdue enemies. Thorns allow for fluid three-dimensional movement by jumping and grabbing onto terrain. Players can choose weapons with unique abilities to either set traps, provide healing, or increase defence. Thorns can also subdue enemies, even severing limbs or arms for additional resources. As players try to reduce their prison sentence, materials scrounged or taken from fallen enemies on the battlefield can be used to upgrade weapons.
The Panopticon is its own entity – players will come to understand and navigate through their prison environment and use Entitlement Points earned from volunteering for combat to claim new rights from their wardens, such as the ability to run for five seconds or to recline while seated. The wardens are fully customisable android accessories that can even accompany players into battle under their ever-watchful eyes. The Panopticon’s community of prisoners will be crucial to survival… missions support up to four Sinners, either AI-controlled NPCs or with other players in online co-op. Band together to take on more difficult combat missions and gradually reduce the million years of incarceration in a life-or-death fight for freedom.
