Netflix has released the first official full trailer for their new upcoming Devil May Cry animated show, based on Capcom's hit video game series of the same name.
While story information is still scarce, the show will follow Demon Hunter Dante as he does what he does best... Hunt Demons in style! The main plot will focus on Dante's fight to protect the world after a portal between the human and demon realm opens, with the fate of both worlds hanging in the balance.
Of course this isn't the first Devil May Cry animated series, but it is the first to be produced in the west.
Here is what Netflix had to say about the announcement:
If you’re looking for a Virgil to guide you through the inferno that is Devil May Cry, look no further. Adi Shankar, the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the animated series from Capcom, has a few things to say about the show and the world he’s created. And don’t worry, he still thinks Dante is cool.
“Rest assured, we are working very hard because we love the franchise and because we want to deliver something great,” Shankar says. Shankar — who was showrunner for Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix — says he and his development partner Alex Larsen have been working on the series, based on the hit video game, every day since it was first announced in 2018. “Our goal wasn’t just to pump out another animated show. My goal is to make one of the best shows on the Netflix platform — period.”
Shankar partnered with Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf), whose portfolio of prior animation work, he says, “speaks for itself.”
His message to excited fans? “Get hyped.”
