Cancelled PlayStation Title "Concord" Reportedly Cost $400 Million

News broke today via noted PlayStation-focused pundit Colin Moriarty, on his podcast "Sacred Symbols", that PlayStation's ill-fated, sci-fi hero-shooter Concord cost a staggering $400 million to develop.

As Colin stated, this would make the title Sony's most expensive game ever made, and all the more shocking that the game failed so spectacularly, and was quickly pulled offline and refunded to all purchasers.

The host of Sacred Symbols states that he had a contact who had worked on the game, and that he verified the source to the degree that he felt confident in their information. The game supposedly took nearly a decade to develop, and according to Colin, it had already racked up a $200 million price tag in 2023, which means it literally doubled in development costs by the time of release, largely because Sony began outsourcing work to other studios just to finish the game and get it in the hands of potential buyers.

Colin states that the current co-CEO of PlayStation, Herman Hulst, thought of the Concord project as "his baby" and he envisioned enormous success for the title. His source reportedly told him that the game was thought to be "The future of PlayStation" and "a Star Wars-like project for Sony" that they intended to revisit repeatedly. Another major issue that his source alleges is that a rampant culture of "toxic positivity" inside PlayStation led to disastrous results regarding the game. It sounds like it was not allowed for people to be openly negative about the title in any way, internally at Sony.
