"A charming open-ended RPG where you'll discover the joys of running your own cozy cafe in a pixel-perfect world. From brewing the perfect cup of coffee to forging friendships with the locals, experience the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure."

Tailside is a new upcoming PC RPG and life simulator, where you get to build your own cafe, and and discover your place in the world. The game features an easy to use, but also in-depth, coffee brewing system, and allows you to fully customize your store front. Drag and drop furniture where you like it, and decorate till your heart's content.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Tailside's developer about their upcoming game, and this is what they had to say!

What would you say your main inspiration was for this game?

I have always been fascinated by pixel art but never really started doing it myself. One day, inspired by reading about other indie game developers, I decided to not only draw pixel art but also make it playable. Inspired by games such as Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, and my big love for coffee, I started putting together ideas and art for Tailside.

While customizing your cafe is clearly a major feature in the game, is there any customization for our furry coffee shop hero?

Right now, that is not included. However, if there are a lot of requests for some kind of customization, I will definitely consider what can be added later on!

What can players expect to find outside of their cafe? Other shops? Villager homes? More surprises?

I have posted some hints around, but more details are not currently publicly available. There will be things such as gardening, other villagers' shops, and more.

Will the game have a calendar and event or holiday system similar to other RPG/life simulator games?

Currently, the game plans to have a day system with the ability to end the day whenever the player wants. Later on, I plan to add a calendar and events if they seem to be popular requested features.

The coffee brewing system looks in-depth but also easy to use! Was it a challenge to find the right balance, and what would you say is your favorite part about this system?

One thing I learned is that it's definitely hard to take a detailed system and simplify it into a fun and easily understandable idea for a wide range of ages. It took quite a few tries and reworks until it started feeling like a well-balanced idea between the real and the game. I think the system is nice because now you can easily create various types of coffee in an engaging way without overthinking or overstressing about all the small details.

In what ways can you improve your relationship with other characters in the game? Does it come from serving them coffee, or are there other ways?

Character relationships will be mostly based on interactions through dialogues with them. There is more to do, but for now, let's keep it at this point.

Customizing the cafe in Tailside.

There's a wide variety of furniture to place in your cafe, but is this something you plan to expand upon with future updates over the years?

Yes! I plan to add quite a big collection of decor, as I want full customization of the cafe to be one of the main game aspects. I will keep updating on new decor releases as I have infinite ideas that would fit right in.

Currently you are focused on the PC release, but would you like to see the game come to consoles in the future?

Of course! I'm sure the Steam Deck and Switch communities would love to see the game on their consoles, and if all goes well, I definitely plan to make it available on those.

Is there anything else you would like the world to know about your game?

I'm creating this game together with the community through various feedback, suggestions, and votes, and I really love seeing people get involved in the making of it. If this game sounds like something you would also love to be involved with in a big or small way, you are very welcome to join our community and chat together on further ideas for Tailside!
