Netflix Shuts Down Meta Quest App, Browser now supports 1080P Streaming

Netflix has officially shut down the Meta Quest Netflix app.

The Meta Quest app allowed Meta Quest owners to sit on a virtual Netflix couch located within a cabin in the mountains, and watch shows and movies on a large screen TV. It was a cozy atmosphere, but the app also offered a "void" mode for those who would rather look at a floating screen in total darkness.

Although the removal of the app is sad, it doesn't mean that Netflix is no longer available on the Meta Quest. In fact, Netflix can still be watched using the built in web browser, which offers a bit more customization overall. Users can position and size the screen as they wish, and even use the Meta Quest 3's AR mode to watch from the comfort of their own home. This feature works for Meta Quest 2 as well, but as the device does not feature full color cameras, the real world will be seen in grayscale. Outside of this "pass through view," the screen can also be placed and positioned in a variety of Meta Quest environments as well.

For those who miss the Netflix couch, or want an experience similar, apps such as Bigscreen VR can be used in conjuncture with a PC to stream Netflix as well. These apps allow you to download or create your own environments, and watch TV alone or with friends.
