It has been quite awhile now since Nintendo released their major Nintendo Network update (which linked 3DS and Wii U eShop accounts), and it seems that Nintendo is finally ready to take things to the next level. If you have access to the EU eShop, then chances are you have heard about Nintendo's new special currently going on. If you buy the RPG "Squids Odyssey" on the 3DS, for a limited time you'll also receive the Wii U copy as well. The game is Nintendo's first "cross buy" title, and although it is a limited offer, this only goes to prove one thing; Nintendo can in fact include cross buy in their future titles.
Up until now, Sony has been one of the only few companies which could provide such a feature (with their PS3, PS4, and Vita), but thanks to Nintendo's new account system, they too can possibly take advantage of this in the future. Currently Nintendo does offer discounts on Wii U Virtual Console games if you owned them on the Wii, but if they could greatly improve on this system. Virtual Console games bought on the 3DS could be played on the Wii U, Wii U Virtual Console titles could be played on 3DS, and eShop titles shared by both consoles could be playable on both with no extra charge. If Nintendo chooses to make full advantage of this system, it would make their fans very happy. Come on Nintendo, go all out with this! No one likes to buy the same game twice on multiple consoles! (Unless, you're me that is...)
