Earlier today GameFreak, the creators of Pokemon, teased a new collaboration game. While no details were actually given, an image was released which hints at what the game might be. Take a look at this:
As you can see, the image features Japanese text behind a creature which is glowing making it near impossible to make out what it is. While the general shape is visible, there is no true way to know what it might be. As for the Japanese text, it loosely translates to the following; "The popular game played around the world is reborn in a shocking collaboration." With this being GameFreak and all, there is a pretty good chance that this is a Pokemon game, but you know; that isn't the only option.
From time to time game companies will work with others to bring back older IPs in some new shape or form. While I'm sure there is already quite a bit of speculation out there; here's my theory at what this image and collaboration may be. Now take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt since none of this has been confirmed. This is simply a possibility.
Speculation:
First of all, notice how the Japanese text states it is a "popular game played around the world," and focus on the words "popular" and "the world," and think about what might be shocking. What are things you may not expect? I never expected to see Nintendo do a crossover with Fire Emblem and Shim Megami Tensei that's for sure. So, what about Namco Bandai? Would you expect Nintendo to do a crossover with them or simply help them make a game? Now, GameFreak is pretty well known at making games like Pokemon with strange little animals, but what if I told you Namco Bandai also had some strange little animals in their .hack series?
If you've never played a .hack game, let me explain. .hack is a series of novels, animes, mangas, and games that are all about this online game called "The World." In The World are these creatures called "Grunties" and they take on many shapes and forms. Let's compare a few of the Grunties with the image above; shall we? Thanks to the .hack// Wikia I was able to come across these images as examples.

Now keep in mind that Grunties come in all shapes and sizes, and these are simply three of the many designs. So, what do you guys think? Notice a resemblance? Despite not having ears that stand up, all three images do resemble the hidden image in some way. They all have the same sort of "head," their legs have just about the same spacing, there appears to be a small bump just under the "chin" which may possibly be an object hanging from its neck, and it has a hanging tail a lot like the Grunty seen in the third image.
So, what do you guys think? Could this be a collaboration with GameFreak and .hack?
