Dead or Alive 5 The Complete Guide

Hello and welcome to our official guide for the fighting game Dead or Alive 5! This guide was previously published on GameFAQs back in October of 2012, and has since been brought over to Netto's Game Room. Keep in mind that this is one of our earlier articles, and it may be a little rough around the edges. It also uses an older text based FAQ format, so get ready to use CTRL + F to find the information you are looking for!

Dead or Alive 5 has since been replaced by Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, and even Dead or Alive 6; however, the information here still applies to all versions of the game. Ultimate and Last Round received extra characters and gameplay modes, but the basics still apply, and the story mode is the same.

With that being said, thank you for stopping by after all these years! We hope you find the following information useful.

[*]FAQ Information

=============================================================================

------------------------------------------------------------------

[*-1]About

------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone and welcome to my Dead or Alive 5 FAQ! Now before I get started,
I would like to say that this is the first FAQ I have ever tried to write for
GameFAQs, and because of that things may change over time.

Even so I really hope that this guide helps you guys out, and also I'd like to
thank you all for reading it! If for whatever reason some of the information
in this guide is proven to be false, please contact me to let me know!

If you have any other questions related to Dead or Alive 5, or this guide,
feel free to contact me as well! Simply just send me a private message here on GameFaqs, and I'll be sure to get back to you as soon as possible!

You can also contact me by emailing me at contact@nettosgameroom.com

- Thanks!

------------------------------------------------------------------

[*-2]Version Info

------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 1.52 - 1/6/2025:

Revised contact information.

Version 1.51 - 5/28/2013:

Not really much of an update, but my contact information has been updated. I am
also currently thinking about including a new section to cover the changes made
for the PlayStation Vita version, but that may not be added until a much later
date.

Version 1.50 - 2/2/2013:

Really I didn't plan on updating the FAQ again this soon, but there were some
changes I really needed to make. Besides a few minor fixes here and there, I
decided to add in a "tips" section to help anyone out who has never played a
fighting game before. In this section I explained some of the basics to fighting
games, and I also talked about how some of the mechanics work in general. On
top of all of that, I also updated the "legal" section of this FAQ a few days
ago, which was released as a "minor" FAQ update, and I added Neoseeker and Cheat
Code Central to the list of sites I authorized to use this FAQ.

For the most part this FAQ is now in fact done, but there are still a few little
pieces of information I would like to include in a future update. I still plan
on finishing the title list, and I may make some changes to the tips section
in the future as well. If anyone notices anything confusing about my
explanations, please feel free to contact me! If you have any tips you would
like me to add to the list, feel free to contact me about that as well!

Well anyway, that's it for this update! If everything goes according to plan,
the next FAQ update should be "Version 2.0," AKA, the "Final Version" of this
guide. Although I may be releasing a second version for Dead or Alive 5 Plus
as well.

Version 1.25 - 1/28/2013:

Sorry it took so long to update this guys, I wanted to wait until the 1.03 patch
was out, so I could update the guide with all of the latest changes. With this
update I have included the new unlock requirements for the unlockables, I have
added in the Stage/Danger Zone section of the guide, and I have also made a few
minor changes as well. Although I still haven't included a full list of title
requirements, I felt that it really isn't that big of a deal since they are
actually listed in game. The only thing that isn't listed in game are the
title's names, which I HAVE included in this FAQ.

I would also like to thank the few of you who noticed some issues with the last
version of this FAQ, and I would like you to know that your names have been
added to the credits!

On top of all of that, I would also like to point out that although patch 1.03
did in fact change a lot of characters up (such as by adding in new moves), it
did not have a major impact on this FAQ's story mode guide.

----------

Version 0.75 - 10/1/2012:

The basic guide is finished, and most information has been included! Currently
the Stage Section and Mission sections are still undergoing some work, but for
the most part, this guide is finished!

=============================================================================

[1]DoA Basics

=============================================================================

Dead or Alive is a 3D fighting game which originally hit the arcades back in
1996. Since then Dead or Alive has evolved into a pretty well known fighting
series, and there have been many gameplay changes as well. With each new game
release new characters were added in, characters were rebalanced, and new
elements of gameplay were added in as well. Over all, Dead or Alive has really
come a long way since it's original release in 1996. Now here we are 16 years
later, and Dead or Alive 5 has finally hit the shelves.

----------
Controls -
----------

The controls in Dead or Alive are quite simple.

D-Pad/Left Analog Stick = Movement(Left/Right movement, ducking, side stepping)
Triangle = Punch
Circle = Kick
Square = Hold
X = Throw

The L1, L2, R1, and R2 buttons can also be used as well, but these buttons are
mostly for multibutton combos which can be hard to use on a standard
controller. For example by the default controller settings, L1 is the same as
hitting Punch and Kick together; however you can also customize your controls
to set these buttons to whatever you wish.

Also keep in mind that DoA5 also supports fighting sticks as well.

----------
The Triangle System -
----------

The second main element in Dead or Alive is the "Triangle System." The way this
system works is simple. Strikes (Punch/Kick) beats Throws, Throws beat Holds,
and Holds beat Strikes. If someone were to try and use a hold against you, by
using a throw you can counter their hold. If someone were to kick or punch you,
you can counter that attack by using the right type of hold.

It really is a simple system, but it's also a system which can take quite a bit
of time to actually master.

----------
Power Blow -
----------

The Power Blow system is a brand new system introduced in Dead or Alive 5 which
can only be triggered once per round, and only if your character has less than
half health. Once this happens, your health bar will then begin flashing red,
and your character will be able to charge up a "Power Blow" which will then do
massive damage to the other player if you manage to hit them with it. Although
each character has their own moves that trigger the Power Blow, they do all
have one thing in common. The Power Blow requires a P+K attack (L1 by default),
followed up by pointing in a set direction on the analog stick/D-Pad. If you're
not sure which buttons are required for your character to do a Power Blow, it's
not too hard to guess, but the good news is that the buttons required are shown
on the character select screen.

----------
Critical Burst -
----------

A Critical Burst is another move which can be very helpful to use. As you land
hits and strikes you should notice that some strikes are landing "critical
hits," but after a few more critical hits the "critical hit" text will actually
turn red. This is your chance! By holding back and hitting Kick + Punch, your
character will pull off a "Critical Burst" which will stun your enemy and allow
you to follow up with some combos. Keep in mind that Critical Bursts can also
be used to help make Power Blows much easier to use.

----------
Maps -
----------

One feature that makes Dead or Alive unique is it's map system. Maps are fully
3D areas which can actually be interacted with. By pushing people into walls,
knocking them into electric fences, or even by knocking people down the stairs,
you can do extra "stage damage" to your enemy. Every single stage is different,
with some stages even having multiable stages within them, and because of that
the dangers are different each time. By learning everything about each stage
you play on, you can use them stages to your advantage.

----------
Danger Zone -
----------

Danger Zone's are a new addition in Dead or Alive 5 and is more along the lines
of an extra type of stage damage. Although not every stage actually has Danger
Zones, it is a feature that is used in quite a few of them, and they can be
quite helpful. By triggering different events, which can be done in different
ways depending on the stage, the stages will change around you, and you'll
often be able to do extra massive damage to your enemy. These Danger Zones
range from causing a helicopter to crash by smacking your enemy into it, to
causing a building to just about fall over. Really Danger Zones can be a bit
tricky to pull off sometimes, but they are very helpful if you know what you're
doing.

(Check out "[E]Stages and Danger Zones" for more information related to the
stages and how to trigger their Danger Zones.)

------------------------------------------------------------------

[1-1]Fighting Terms

------------------------------------------------------------------
Before we move on there are a few fighting terms you will need to understand.
I WILL be using these terms for the rest of this FAq, so it is very important
that you understand what I am talking about.

P = Punch
K = Kick
H = Hold
T = Throw

And finally for the movements, I will be using the number pad to explain which
direction to hit on the D-Pad/Analog Stick.

789
456
123

7 = Up Left
8 = Up
9 = Up Right
4 = Left
5 = No Movement (this one will not be used in this FAQ)
6 = Right
1 = Down Left
2 = Down
3 = Down Right

Also remember that the Left/Right set up only applies when you are on the LEFT
side of the arena. Whenever your character is on the right side, then all input
commands will be flipped. For example if you are on the LEFT side of the arena
and hit 6P (for a forward punch) you will do a forward punch; however if you
are on the RIGHT side of the arena and hit 6P you will actually do the
backwards punch move. So anyway, keep in mind where your character actually is.

=============================================================================

[2]The Characters

=============================================================================
Like with most Dead or Alive games, Dead or Alive 5 features the return of many
of the older DoA characters, as well as a few new comers as well; however that
isn't all. Dead or Alive 5 also marks the first time in history where outside
fighting game characters have entered the mix. Although past games have had
special characters, or even easter eggs, for DoA5 Team Ninja actually teamed up
with SEGA to provide us with a little crossover between DoA and their Virtua
Fighter series. These Virtua Fighter characters have been reworked to fit the
DoA style, and they can be unlocked pretty early on.

Dead or Alive 5 features 24 characters in total, with the possibility for
downloadable characters to be released in the future.

Control settings allow you to change the type of controls you want to use in
game. There's a type A, B, C, and D control set up, as well as a custom option
which allows you to pick what buttons do what.

You can also change how you want side stepping to be controled. It can be
controlled by either double tapping up or down, or you can set it to Up
H+P+K/Down H+P+K. Really it is up to your play style.

----------
Screen Settings -
----------
This is the basic brightness setting. Depending on what type of television
you are using, you may want to set this as soon as possible.

----------
Sound Settings -
----------
The sound settings allow you to, well, change the sound settings. You can
pick how loud the stage music is, how loud the sound effects are, and how
loud the character voices are as well. There's also a fourth option which
allows you to pick the announcers voice, but by default you'll only be able
to use the "DoA" voice option. More can be unlocked later on though.

(For more information check out [F-2]Other in the unlockable section.)

----------
Online Settings -
----------
Under online settings you are only able to change two things. You can pick
which character is your "main" character, you can either have it set for your
most used character or pick one from the list, and you can also choose if you
want to post information to Facebook or not. If you do want to post information
to Facebook, you will need to link your Facebook account to your system, and
then allow it here in the settings.

----------
Language Settings -
----------
The Language Settings may actually be one of the first places some of you
will go. Here you will be able to change the voices from English back to
Japanese, you'll be able to turn on or off the sub titles, and you'll also be
able to pick which language you want the in game text to be. Although the
voices can only be switched between English and Japanese, you can actually
change the menu text to just about anything. (It has all of the major
languages.)

----------
Install -
----------
The final option in settings is a PS3 exclusive option, mainly becasue the
Xbox 360 has it built in, and that is the install option. Basically this option
allows you to install game data to your HDD which will in return make your game
load much faster and run much smoother. If you have extra space on your HDD, I
STRONGLY recommend doing the install as soon as possible. For the PS3 the
install is only 2,700 MB, but the 360 version will in fact install the whole
disc.

[A]Story

=============================================================================

One of the biggest additions in Dead or Alive 5 is the "full" story mode.
Although past games did have cutscenes which played during the character's
arcade mode, DoA5 actually uses Dead or Alive Dimension's style of play, and
has a chapter based story. Each chapter features a different character with
their own set of fights, as well as their own bonus missions to complete.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-1]01-05 Intro
------------------------------------------------------------------

----------
1. THE ABYSS OF DEATH
----------
The first part of the game is actually a cutscene, all you have to do is sit
back and enjoy! Pretty easy so far huh?

----------
2. PUT TO THE TEST
----------
Mila VS Zack
Bonus Mission: Land 5 Punches

The first actual part of the game is very simple, but let me tell you right
now, if you struggle to win this fight, you are going to have some problems.
This fight is the easiest fight in the entire game, and it can easily be won
by just mashing buttons. So, what should you do? Mash buttons! Yep, although
I normally wouldn't recommend someone to mash buttons in a fighting game, if
you are COMPLETELY new to Dead or Alive (or fighting games), now is your
chance to try out what you can do.

Assuming that you just put the game in and jumped right into story mode, the
first thing you want to do is actually DO the bonus mission. Each and every
single chapter, minus cutscene chapters, will have bonus missions for you to
do, and these missions will unlock titles. If you want to unlock any of the
bonuses the game has to offer, you should really do them. Now with that being
said, just punch Zack 5 times by hitting triangle.

Once you have finished the bonus mission, feel free to try out different
buttons, and try to get just a basic idea of how the game mechanics work.

----------
3. PREMONITION
----------
This chapter is just another cutscene chapter, so you can either watch it or
skip it. Really though I recommend watching EVERY cutscene in this game since
it is actually required to get one of the trophies. Still it is your choice if
you want to skip it or not.

----------
4. EVERYDAY ISSUES
----------
Rig VS Bass
Bonus Mission: Land 5 Kicks

Just like the first bonus mission, this one is very simple. All you have to
do is land 5 kicks during this fight by hitting the kick button, and then
win. Also keep in mind that the game DOES provide you with a hint when you
first start the match, but you can also pause the game and click on the
"hint" option if you forgot what it said. Another thing to keep in mind is
that you MUST win the fight after finishing the bonus mission. You CANNOT
finish the bonus mission, lose, and then just win the fight and expect to
still have the title. It doesn't work that way.

----------
5. SIBLINGS
----------
Just like part 1 and 3, this one is another cutscene.
----------

Once you finish the game's intro, Kasumi's chapter becomes unlocked, and the
real game starts.

------------------------------------------------------------------

[A-2]06-08 Kasumi

------------------------------------------------------------------

-KASUMI-

A ninja from the Tenjinmon sect of the Mugen Tenshin ninja clan. She left her
village to search for her missing brother Hayate. However, leaving the village
broke the code of the shinobi, and she was hunted as a traitor by her
half-sister Ayane.

Now, she pursues a weaponized clone of herself known as Alpha-152, which was
created by the multinational conglomerate DOATEC.

With new information from Helena, Kasumi sets out to find more clues about
Alpha's whereabouts.

----------
6. WAITING
----------
Kasumi VS Lisa
Bonus Mission: Land 3 High Strikes

This is another very easy mission to complete, but this is also where things
start to pick up. If you are a newbie, or if this is your first time playing
DoA5, you may actually have to try this fight a few times. This is where the
AI finally stops being a push over, and the real fights begin.

Still to do this bonus mission all you have to do is hold up, and then either
use a punch or a kick. Land 3 high hits, and then the mission is over.
If you know what you're doing, you'll land the high hits, and then beat Lisa
without even getting hit yourself.

----------
7. RUNAWAY NINJA
----------
Kasumi VS Ayane
Bonus Mission: Land 3 Mid Strikes

Just like with the last one, but this time you need to land some mid strikes.
Mid stikes come from using 3 attacks (down right attacks), and they are
pretty easy to pull off. So, well, just land a few of them, and then the
bonus mission will be completed! (Note: Keep in mind that every character in
this game is different and that not ALL 3 attacks will actually be mid strikes.
It just so happens to be the case for Kasumi though.)

----------
8. LOOKING FOR SOMETHING
----------
Kasumi VS Bayman
Bonus Mission: Land 3 Low Strikes

Here's where you will be using the final "basic" form of strikes, the low
strike. Simply hold down and use any kind of strike to hit Bayman.

Once you finish this bonus mission you will then once again find yourself at
the Dead or Alive 5 Story Timeline, and you will then be ready to move onto
Ayane's chapter.
----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-3]09-12 Ayane
------------------------------------------------------------------

-AYANE-

A ninja from the Hajinmon sect of the Mugen Tenshin ninja clan, a sect that
supports the main Tenjinmon sect from the shadows.

Ayane hunted her traitorous half-sister Kasumi for breaking the code of the
shinobi.

She infiltrates the Freedom Survivor with her half-brother Hayate, leader of
the Mugen Tenshin ninja clan.

----------
9. PRUSUIT
----------
The first part of Ayane's chapter is just another cutscene, so there really
isn't too much to talk about here; however, this is also one of the last
times this will happen during the story. For the most part, each character's
story contains three fights with any extra chapters simply being a cutscene.
This is actually one of the last times this will happen for awhile.

----------
10. ON A HUNCH
----------
Ayane VS Hitomi
Bonus Mission: Block 5 Strikes with Standing Guard

Now we're onto the blocking bonus missions. For this all you have to do is
either hold the "hold" button, or just hold back. Hitomi will hit you a few
times, you'll block her strikes, and then you can move onto attacking. This
should be a fast and easy mission to complete!

----------
11. GROWING A LITTLE
----------
Ayane VS Eliot
Bonus Mission: Block 10 Strikes with Standing Guard

Not much different from the last one. Just block, and then strike back when
the time is right! Just keep in mind that Eliot hits hard and if you attack at
the wrong time he'll do quite a lot of damage to you. Be smart, use your
blocks, and counter whenever you can.

----------
12. OBSTACLES
----------
Ayane VS Bayman
Bonus Mission: Block 3 Low Strikes with Crouching Guard

Just like the other two, but this time it is low guard. Simply hold down back
(1), or hold down + hold (2H). Simply let Bayman hit you a few times, and then
get up and take him down! Just keep in mind that some of his strikes may not
be low strikes so you MAY take damage. If this happens, then don't worry! The
fight is pretty easy so taking a few hits wont kill you.

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-4]13-15 Kokoro
------------------------------------------------------------------

-KOKORO-

Still in training to become a geisha, she has mastered the fighting style of
Ba Ji Quan.

On a trip to Tokyo with her mother Miyako, she sees a familar face on an
outdoor monitor.

They had faced each other in the Dead or Alive 4 tournament, but Kokoro felt a
stronger connection to the lady than just that one fight.

----------
13. DOA5 TOURNAMENT ANNOUNCEMENT
----------
Kokoro VS Lisa
Bonus Mission: Block and Throw 3 times

Now things are going to get a bit trickier, but not too tricky! For this one
all you have to do is block Lisa's strikes, and then grab her when she's open
by pressing T (which X by default). Do this three times, and the mission will
be over! Just make sure you win the fight. (You may also want to use stage
damage here as well, Lisa can be a bit challenging if this is the first time
you've ever played as Kokoro.)

----------
14. BROKEN VESSEL
----------
Kokoro VS Jann Lee
Bonus Mission: Low Block and Throw 2 times

Like with Lisa's mission, but this time you need to low block Jann's kicks,
and then follow them up with some low throws! Now this one can be tricky,
but if you keep trying you should be able to finish this mission in no time!
Although Jann Lee isn't really a push over, so you may actually want to throw
him out the window as soon as possible. That'll do quite a bit of extra damage
to him, and you'll then find yourself in a much more open area. Basically you
won't have to worry about being kicked into walls as much!

----------
15. 10 YEARS
----------
Kokoro VS Akira
Bonus Mission: Hold 3 Mid Punches

Here we are, at the first Virtua Fighter battle of the game! For this one all
you really have to do is counter three of Akira's punches, and then finish him
off. To do just hold back and hit your hold button at the same time (4h) at
the right time, and you will then counter. Just about all of Akira's attacks
will be easy to time mid attacks, so you really shouldn't have too much of a
problem with this one.

Once you beat Akira he will be unlocked as a playable character.

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-5]16-18 Mila
------------------------------------------------------------------

-MILA-

An up-and-coming MMA fighter who has made a clean sweep of many tournaments.

Zack challenges her to a fight to see for himself if she's ready for the Dead
or Alive 5 tournament. Mila wins, and now looks to make her dream a reality.

----------
16. CHAMP
----------
Mila VS Tina
Bonus Mission: Tech Roll 3 times

This one can be a little bit challenging, but only because it requires quite
a bit of waiting. To do a tech roll all you have to do is hit a button as
SOON as you hit the ground to get right back up; however that's why it can be
challenging. Basically in this one you will be waiting (and HOPING) for Tina
to knock you down on the ground so you can then do a tech roll and get away.
In the end you'll most likely be down on your health, so you may actually want
to fight Tina and weaken her before you try to do the bonus mission. You don't
have to, but it might make the fight easier if you do end up having low health.

Tina is a strong one, so be ready for her!
----------
17. MEETING
----------
Mila VS Brad
Bonus Mission: Land 2 Rising Kicks

Now this one is easy! Sure Brad's fighting style make take a bit of getting
used to if you're a new commer to Dead or Alive, but this mission shouldn't
cause you much of a problem. Simply wait for Brad to knock you down, and then
press your Kick button to do a Rising Kick. All you have to do is do it two
times, so you really shouldn't take too much damage from Brad before you'll
finally be able to do it.

----------
18. SPARING
----------
Mila and Tina VS Brad and Eliot
Bonus Mission: Do 2 Tag Throws

This is the first official Tag Match of the game, and to go along with it is a
very easy bonus mission. In Tag Matches you can switch between your characters
by pressing H+P+K (which is defaulted to the R1 button), but you can also
switch between them by pulling off a Tag Throw. To do a Tag Throw simply hit
your Throw button, and watch the special throws. Every character team has their
own unique throws, so in the main game you should really try them all out if
you get the time!

Anyway, just throw Brad or Eliot two times and this mission will be completed.

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------

[A-6]19-21 Tina

------------------------------------------------------------------

-TINA-

Daughter of the retired wrestling legend Bass and one of the strongest pro
wrestlers in her own right.

After getting so much attention in Dead or Alive 4, she set her sights on
being a rock star. She had already been a model and actress, but something in
her still longed for more.

----------
19. PASSIONATE MEMORIES
----------
Tina VS Zack
Bonus Mission: Hold 3 Low Strikes

Like in Kokoro's story, we are back to doing a hold based mission. For this
one just hit down right and hold at the same time when Zack attacks (1H). If
you time your holds right, you will then counter Zack three times and the
mission will be finished. Just remember, Zack's low kicks are pretty fast and
strong, so it may take some practice before you finally get the timing down.

----------
20. A RIVAL APPEARS
----------
Tina VS Sarah
Bonus Mission: Hold 3 High Strikes

Here we are at the second Virtua Fighter fight of the game, and this time it
is versus Sarah! Once again our bonus mission is a hold mission, but this
time it is a high hold mission. Just hit back and up and hold at the same
time (7H). Do this three times and the mission will be over, and you will
unlock Sarah as a playable character!

----------
21. THE ROAD TO A COMEBACK
----------
Tina VS Mila
Bonus Mission: Hold 3 Mid Kicks

To hold a Mid Kick all you have to do is hit forward and hold whenever the
time is right (6H). Now this mission is pretty easy, but Mila doesn't always
use her kick moves, so it may actually take awhile before you can complete it.
If you do a lot of damage to Mila before you are able to block three kicks,
you may want to pause the game and restart the fight.

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-7]22-24 Zack
------------------------------------------------------------------

-ZACK-

A funky DJ with genius fighting skills.

He flew to Helena's rescue as DOATECH's headquarters collapsed around here,
and since then has helped Helena to reform DOATEC.

Now with Dead or Alive 5 close at hand, Zack travels around the world to
invite the strongest fighters to the tournament.

----------
22. SERIOUS TRAINING
----------
Zack VS Jann Lee
Bonus Mission: Land a Strike during a Wall Stun

A VERY easy mission which you have most likely done in just about every fight
so far. All you have to do is get Jann Lee up against a wall, smack him into
it, and then punch him as he bounces off. Yep, that is it!

----------
23. HANGOVER
----------
Zack VS Brad
Bonus Mission: Land a Power Blow

This one actually takes a bit more work, and it is also one of them missions
you will have to risk dying to complete. To complete this mission you will
first want to weaken Brad to at least half of his health, just to play it
safe, and then you will NEED to let him get you down to half health as well.
To pull off a Power Blow, your character has to have less than 50% HP, and you
will then have to charge up a Power Blow attack (Zack's is done by hitting
1P+K). Once the attack is fully charged, and when it hits Brad, you will pull
off a Power Blow and the mission will be completed.

If you weakened Brad before the Power Blow it may actually kill him, but if
not you better be careful so that Brad doesn't kill you instead.

----------
24. THE ROAD TO A COMEBACK
----------
Zack VS Tina and Mila
Bonus Mission: Escape 3 Combo Throws

Now I'm not going to lie, this one is pretty challenging! In this one you will
be playing as only Zack, and you will have to fight both Tina AND Mila in a
Tag Team Match. Then, on top of all of that, you will actually have to risk
being killed as you try to escape three Combo Throws. If you mess up, you will
take massive damage, and it may be pretty hard to come back from that. Now with
that being said, this is what you do.

To beat this mission all you have to do is wait for either Tina or Mila to grab
you, and then during their combo throw press T to escape. It does take a bit of
timing, and you WILL most likely get hurt, so you may want to weaken both Tina
AND Mila before you even try this bonus mission. It's better to have them
almost dead instead of you being almost dead while they both have max health.
The good news is that the ropes of the arena have electricity running through
them, so make sure to knock Tina and Mila into them to get some extra damage
in!

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-8]25-27 Rig
------------------------------------------------------------------

-RIG-

Boss of an offshore platform owned by DOATEC.

Not only is he respected by all the otherh roughnecks on the platform, Rig has
also mastered his own style of taekwondo.

One day, in the middle of work, a mysterious lady pays the offshore platform a
visit.

----------
25. UNKNOWN WOMAN
----------
Rig VS Christie
Bonus Mission: Hold 2 Mid Punches in Critical Stun

This is another mission which requires you to be beat up as you try to pull off
a special type of move. Once again all you have to do is hold a few strikes
with 4H, but this time you have to be in Critical Stun. To get in Critial Stun,
simply allow Christie to land a few hits, and as soon as you see the text
"Critical Stun" appear, counter one of her attacks. This one may take a few
tries before you get it down, but it is a pretty easy task. The real issue is
the fact that there are so many walls in the area that Christie may not be able
to get you into Critical Stun as often as you might hope (hitting a wall will
break Critical Stun).

----------
26. FIGHTERS GATHER
----------
Rig VS Jann Lee
Bonus Mission: Hold two Mid Kicks in Critical Stun

This is the same as the last mission, but this time they HAVE to be Mid Kicks.
To do so simply hit 6H when you are in Critical Stun. The good news is that
Jann Lee's combo is basically timed so that his kicks will hit after you are
in Critical Stun. So in other words, everything will work out just fine, and
you shouldn't have to wait forever to complete this mission. (On a side note,
this bonus mission actually spells out "two" in the description. Just kind of
a random fact...)

----------
26. FIGHTERS GATHER *FIGHT 2*
----------
Rig VS Eliot
Bonus Mission: Hold 2 Low Strikes in Critical Stun

Just like with Jan Lee's mission, but this time it is Low Strikes! Once again
Eliot's attacks are timed so all you really have to do is counter by hitting
1H.

----------
27. FLAMES RISE
----------
Since there were two parts to part 26, FLAMES RISE is simply a cutscene which
leads the game into Bass' story.

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-9]28-30 Bass
------------------------------------------------------------------

-BASS-

A legendary pro wrestler.

After fighting in Dead or Alive 4 in order to stop his daughter, he announced
his retirement and went to work on a DOATEC offshore plant.

He was goign to settle down, live a quiet life, and let the youngsters take the
spotlight. Or at least, that was the plan....

----------
28. GOOD LITTLE GIRL
----------
Bass VS Rig
Bonus Mission: Do a Strike Throw

Now things are going to start getting harder. All of the basics have been
covered already, and now it is time for the deeper/more complex missions. To
start things off, this time we have to do a Strike Throw!

To do a Strike Throw as Bass hit 236P followed up by your standard Throw.
It's pretty simple, but things are about to get harder.

----------
29. THE MYSTEROUS MASKED WRESTLER
----------
"Mr. Strong" VS Zack
Bonus Mission: Do 2 Air Throws

Now it is time to learn how to do Bas, er, "Mr. Strong's" Air Throws! To do
this simply hit 8K to knock Zack up into the air, and then press T to grab him.
If you time it right you should be able to pull off two Air Throws no problem.

----------
30. FAMILY
----------
"Mr. Strong" VS Tina
Bonus Mission: Do 2 Combo Throws

Combo Throws are a little more advance, but it really isn't that hard once you
get the hang of it. To do Bass' Combo Throw for this mission, do the following:
first hit 214T to set up the combo, then hit 2T to begin the second part, and
finally finish it with 8T. If you do it right you should pull off Bass' combo
throw. (214T , 2T , 8T)

Just keep trying, and after a little practice, you should be able to pull it
off no problem. Also keep in mind that Combo Throws do a LOT of damage, so make
sure you do them as soon as possible so you don't kill Tina before you can get
that second one in.

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-10]31-33 Brad
------------------------------------------------------------------

-BRAD WONG-

Master of Zui Ba Xian Quan, also known as Drunken Fist.

After Dead or Alive 4, he accompanied Eliot on his journey of training.

There, during their journey, word reaches them of Dead or Alive 5.

----------
31. JOURNEY
----------
Brad VS Eliot
Bonus Mission: Land 3 Back-Turned Strikes

After watching the funny cutscene showing Brad and Eliot battle over food, the
match begins and you are tasked with hitting Eliot three times with your
Back-Turned Strikes. Now this can be a bit tricky since your back will be left
open to Eliot's strikes, but it only takes three hits to complete this one.

Simply hit 44P to turn around, then start mashing P to hit Eliot three times.
You may actually have to turn your back twice to Eliot, since only the first
two strikes will count, but it still isn't that hard.

----------
32. JOURNEY
----------
Brad VS Eliot
Bonus Mission: Land 3 Lying Strikes

Basically the same as last time, but this time they are Lying Strikes. Simply
hit 2P+K to lay down, then start kicking away!

----------
33. GETTING READY
----------
Brad and Eliot VS Leifang and Hitomi
Bonus Mission: Do a Tag Combo

To do a Tag Combo all you have to do is land a few hits as Brad (or Eliot),
and then hit H+P+K to switch between your characters and follow up with another
combo. If you time your tag right, and if you keep hitting, you will finish
this easy mission. Really the hardest part about this is winning the fight, and
that really isn't too hard!

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-11]34-36 Eliot
------------------------------------------------------------------

-ELIOT-

A practitioner of Xing Yi Quan, and the only apprentice to the legendary Iorn
Fist, Gun Fu.

On a journey of training together with Brad Wong, he hears of Dead or Alive 5
and decides to enter (the?) tournament.

He wants to learn what strenght truly means.

----------
34. MILK
----------
Eliot VS Christie
Bonus Mission: Land 3 Sidestep Strikes

This is another VERY easy mission which shouldn't take you long to do. Simply
side step (the default is by tapping up and down twice) and either punch or
kick as you do it. There really isn't much else too it than that! Heck, even
Christie is easy this time around.

----------
35. THE QUARTER FINALS BEGIN
----------
Eliot VS Kokoro
Bonus Mission: Land Sunsho 3 times as a Counter Hit

A bit mroe advance, but still not too hard. As soon as Kokoro begins her attack
simply hit 7P to pull off Sunsho and counter her hit! Do this two more times,
and the mission title will be yours! Kokoro is pretty strong though, so don't
think you can just button mash your way through this match. Whatever I said
about button mashing at the start of this walkthrough has now offically been
thrown out the door.

----------
36. THE MASTER
----------
Eliot VS Brad
Bonus Mission: Land 3 Ground Strikes

For this one all you have to do is land a few ground strikes. Simply use lower
strikes and heavy hitting strikes to knock Brad down, and then either use 2P or
8P+K to land a ground strike before he gets up.

Once you finish this fight you will also unlock Gen Fu as a playable character!

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-12]37-39 Leifang
------------------------------------------------------------------

-LEIFANG-

A Tai Chi Quan prodigy.

She heard about the Dead or Alive 5 tournament and set off with Hitomi, whom
she befriended after a fierce fight in DOA4, on a journey of training.

Now she has another chance to win the tournament, and to fight "him" once more.

----------
37. STRANGE TRAINING
----------
Leifang and Hitomi VS Zack
Bonus Mission: Do 2 Character Specific Holds

This time things have turned around! It is you, with two characters, versus
Zack! Although, the mission does add a bit more to the challenge. This time
around you need to pull off two "Character Specific Holds" which basically
mean they are holds ONLY that character can do. In this case, Leifang can do
3H, and Hitomi can do 9H.

Just switch to which ever character you like the best, do two Character
Specific Holds, and then finish off Zack. Shouldn't be too hard, but it may
take awhile for Zack to actually do a strike which can be countered with them
holds. That's the true challenge here.

----------
38. SERIOUS TRAINING
----------
Leifang VS Hitomi
Bonus Mission: Do 2 Expert Mid Punch Holds

Doing two Expert Mid Punch Holds can be pretty tricky, and to make it worse,
Hitomi doesn't always use moves that can be countered by them! Basically
though, this is what you have to do. First wait for Hitomi to start one of
her combos, then press 64H as fast as you can so Leifang will do an Expert
Hold. The timing MUST be dead on for this one, and you have to move your thumb
much faster than normal if you want the input to be picked up in time. This
mission is actually one of the most challenging ones you'll face in story
mode, but it can be beat pretty easily once you practice.

----------
39. HIS BACK
----------
Leifang VS Mila
Bonus Mission: Do 2 Expert Mid Kick Holds

Yep, you gotta do it again. Hopefully you've gotten used to doing expert holds
from Hitomi's mission, but this time will require a bit more training. This
time hit 46H, and try to counter a Mid Kick with it. Once again it HAS to be a
Mid Kick or else the counter will NOT count for the mission. This one is pretty
tricky.

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-13]40-42 Hitomi
------------------------------------------------------------------

-HITOMI-

Daughter of a famous German karate master.

She had advanced to the quarterfinals of Dead or Alive 5.

She knew that if she kept fighting, she wouldu meet him again. The man she
found in the woods with no clothes and no memory. The man she once trained
with, and who became closer than a brother to her. She would meet Ein.

But the memories had returned. Hayate had returned. And Ein was no more.

----------
40. THE QUARTER FINALS BEGIN
----------
Hitomi VS Mila
Bonus Mission: Do a 5-Hit Combo

Ok, here we are. If there's any reason for you to read this FAQ, it is the next
three missions. For the next three missions you will have to land a 5-Hit
Combo, a 7-Hit Combo, and finally a 10-Hit Combo as Hitomi, and the only way to
do it is to truly know how to do one of Hitomi's combos. You CANNOT button
mash these next three missions and expect to win. It will not work unless you
get extremely lucky.

Now with that being said, lets actually get into the combo. Basically it goes
a little something like this:

6P+K , 66PPP , 4KPPPP

That combo is the one you will need to land your 10-Hit Combo, but for now only
half of it is required. Simply just hold forward and hit P+K (L1 by default),
double tap forward and then punch three times (while still holding forward),
followed by pressing back and hitting kick, punch, punch, punch, punch. You'll
actually hit the 5-Hit Combo half way in, but you might as well practice this
combo now.

----------
41. DEAD OR ALIVE 5 SEMIFINALS
----------
Hitomi VS Eliot
Bonus Mission: Do a 7-Hit Combo

Just like the last part, but this time it is a 7-Hit Combo. Once again we will
be using the following combo to do this.

6P+K , 66PPP , 4KPPPP

Now this time around you will actually have to move onto the full final part of
the combo if you want to get the 7-Hits in, so this is how this combo will play
out.

By hitting forward and P+K (L1 by default) Hitomi will strike with her two
fists causing Eliot to be pushed back. Once this happens double tap forward,
and while holding forward, throw in three punches which will then knock Eliot
into the air. Before Eliot gets a chance to land, quickly press back, tap kick,
and then mash the punch button as fast as you can. In the end you WILL land a
10-Hit combo, and Eliot will go flying.

The only thing to keep in mind here is that it is VERY easy to hit kick twice
by mistake during the last part of the combo, so make sure you ONLY quickly
tap kick once before you start punching. If anything, this part will cause the
most problems for you during this combo.

----------
42. I KNOW WHAT I MUST DO
----------
Hitomi VS Hayate
Bonus Mission: Do a 10-Hit Combo

Same thing as before, use the following combo.

6P+K , 66PPP , 4KPPPP

Now it is true that there are other combos that can be used to reach the 10-Hit
mark, but this one is just about the easiest one out there.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-14]43-45 Jann Lee
------------------------------------------------------------------

-JANN LEE-

A hot-blooded martial artist always looking to take on the toughest fighters.

He joins the Dead or Alive 5 tournament with a burning desire to beat down the
strongest people in the world.

The only thing that can quench his thirst for combat is yet another fight. Like
the one he had with that man before.

----------
43. HOT-BLOODED JANN LEE
----------
Jann Lee VS Zack
Bonus Mission: Hold an Unblockable Attack

This one can be challenging, but basically all you have to do is counter one of
Zack's Unblockable Attacks. These are basically attacks that will do damage
even if they are guarded, so the only true way to block them is to either dodge
or counter. Zack does put up a pretty good fight this time around though, so
be ready to fight him, and don't let your guard down!

----------
44. THE QUARTER FINALS BEGIN
----------
Jann Lee VS Leifang
Bonus Mission: Land an Unblockable Attack

This time you're on the other side of things. Just land Jann's Unblockable
Attack and that is all there is too it! Just hit 236K, and watch Leifang take a
beating.

----------
44. THE QUARTER FINALS BEGIN
----------
Jann Lee VS "Mr. Strong"
Bonus Mission: Blow an Opponent into a wall

Just like with the last one, but this time it is 236P. Use it to knock Bass
into a wall, and this mission will be done with!

----------
45. SOMEONE STRONGER
----------
Jann Lee VS Hitomi
Bonus Mission: Land an 8-Hit Combo on a Back-Facing Opponent

Sounds kind of hard right? Well don't worry, it isn't! Well, as long as you
practice this little combo...

6P+KP , 4H+K , 4PPP

So, lets break this down...

The first part of this combo goes a little something like this. First hold
forward and hit Punch and Kick at the same time, and then quickly follow that
up with another punch. Once that is done with, quickly hold back and hit H+K
(default will be the R2 button), and quickly follow it up with three punches
(while still holding back). If you land the first part of this and combo into
it, you should pull off an 8-Hit Combo.

Just make sure you practice a little in training mode (or not... Really it's up
to you)!

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-15]46-48 Ryu Hayabusa
------------------------------------------------------------------

-HAYABUSA-

The ultimate ninja, an heir to the Hayabusa Ninja Clan.

Hayabusa helped Hayate and the other ninjas from the shadows to put an end to
DOATEC's conspiracy. However, he felt evil rising again.

It was then that this close friend Hayate came to him...

----------
46. SWORN ALLY
----------
Ryu Hayabusa VS Hayate
Bonus Mission: Do an Izuna Drop

It's time to do Ryu's famous Izuna Drop, but this time, it isn't as easy. The
basic combo for this is 41236T , 23698T , 214789632T and that isn't as easy to
do anymore. Basicially what you have to do is first grab Hayate with 41236T,
then quickly enter in 23698T, and as soon as you do spin your controller
stick/D-Pad around in a clockwise direction, then hit T to finish off the throw.
If you don't do it fast enough, Hayabusa will not do the full Izuna drop.

I'm not going to lie, it may take practice even for you long time vets out
there. DoA5 changed the timing, and that may really throw you off at first.

----------
47. LAB
----------
Hayabusa VS Lisa
Bonus Mission: Knock your Opponent down from a Cliffhanger

Now this one is an easy one so don't worry! For this all you have to do is
knock Lisa into the steel beam that's right behind her at the start of the
round, this will trigger a Danger Zone, and then you'll have to knock her off
the ledge to put her in a Cliffhanger. The only thing is, if you flat out KNOCK
her off the edge, she will fall, but if you send her flying and she rolls off
the building, she will grab on. THIS is what you must do.

Once she is hanging off the edge you can then either hit P,K, or T to either
strike her off, or throw her off.

----------
48. MEETING ZACK
----------
Hayabusa VS Zack
Bonus Mission: Do a Senko-Izuna

Just like the Izuna Drop, but worse! To do the Senko-Izuna you must first
expert hold by hitting 67H, and then follow that up with 23698H, and then
236987412H. Just like with the Izuna Drop, this one can be quite the pain,
and the fact that Zack must hit you for you to even start it is even more of
a pain.

Just keep trying and you'll get it sooner or later.

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-16]49-53 Kasumi
------------------------------------------------------------------

-KASUMI: PART 2-

Kasumi hunted for her weaponized clone, Alpha 152, but she was unable to find
her. Kasumi returns to Helena.

----------
49. LIES
----------
Now back to the game's "main" story. To start things off is just another
cutscene.

----------
50. TALK
----------
Kasumi VS Rig
Bonus Mission: Trigger a Critical Burst

Critial Bursts can be triggered after landing a few Critial Stun hits in a row.
The "Critical Stun" text will glow red, and you will then be able to press 6P+K
to put Rig into a Critical Burst state. This can take awhile to do since there
are so many walls around you in this arena, but keep trying and you'll be able
to pull it off.

----------
51. INSTINCT
----------
Kasumi VS Lisa
Bonus Mission: Follow up during a Critical Burst

For this one simply do what you did in the last mission. Critical Burst Lisa,
but then hit her with any other type of strike.

----------
52. SHOWDOWN
----------
Kasumi VS Alpha-152
Bonus Mission: Hit a Special Danger Zone

This one takes a little bit of extra work to pull off, and it is also very
dangerous since you will have to get your health to less than 50%. Alpha-152
hits hard, she is fast, and some people may consider her to be the cheapest
character in the game. It doesn't help that her AI is a mind reader! So, just
how do you beat her and this mission? Well, it will take quite a bit of skill,
and luck.

The first thing you want to do is get up against one of them pillers which
seem to be holding the elevator up, and either allow Alpha to smack you off of
it, or you can hit Alpha off of it yourself. Either way you need to break just
one of these things to change the arena into its second form with the falling
hunks of metal.

Once this happens, you then must allow Alpha to drain half of your health so
that you can then pull off a Power Blow. By doing a Power Blow as the chunks of
metal fall you will trigger the Special Danger Zone, and finish the mission.
Now all is left to do is to finish off Alpha, which isn't an easy task might I
add.

----------
53. THE CODE
----------
The final part of Kasumi's second story is just a long cutscene. Sit back,
enjoy, and be shocked!

----------

author

-BAYMAN-

An assassin hunting for Donovan, who disappeared after the fall of DOATEC.

He returned to the battlefield as a mercenary. His squad was ambushed one day
on patrol. Bayman was the only one who survived, but he was left with a vicious
scar as a reminder of that day.

Bayman believes that a certain organization had a hadn in the ambush, so he
begins looking into the events on his own.

----------
54. FLASHBACK
----------
This is just a flashback cutscene showing some of the past events of the game.
It kind of serves as a recap more than anything else.

----------
55. MUGEN TENSHIN NINJUTSU
----------
Bayman VS Hayate
Bonus Mission: Do 3 High Offensive Holds

This one is very simple. Just hit 66T to do a High Offensive Hold (aka Throw),
and that is it!

----------
56. MEETING ZACK - PART II
----------
Bayman VS Zack
Bonus Mission: Do 3 Low Offensive Holds

Once again, just hit 3T or 2T to do a Low Offensive Hold, and you're good!

----------
57. ALERT
----------
Bayman VS Christie
Bonus Mission: Do a Ground Throw

Another very easy mission, which is shocking after what we've had to go through
to get this far into the game, but I guess that's a good thing. Basically knock
Christie to the ground, then press 2T to Ground Throw her. Yep, that is it!

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-18]58-61 Helena
------------------------------------------------------------------

-HELENA-

President & CEO of DOATEC

For years, the scientist Donovan ruled DOATEC from the shadows. He twisted the
company with his Project Alpha, and even coordinated the assassination of Fame
Douglas, the founder of DOATEC adn Helena's father. The struggles with DOATEC
eventually claimed the life of Helena's mother as well.

So Helena destroyed it all. She initiated the self-destruct sequence and stood
in the flames as DOATEC headquarters exploded around here, incinerating both
Donovan's evil and her own personal tragedy.

Now, from the ashes of the old, Helena has created a new DOATEC and calls out
to all the fighters of the world to revel once again in Dead or Alive 5.

----------
58. WOMAN IN THE WRONG PLACE
----------
Helena VS Christie
Bonus Mission: Throw a Sidestepping Opponent

Another very easy one. Just wait for Christie to side step, and throw her!

----------
59. FATHERS
----------
Helena VS Kokoro
Bonus Mission: Strike a Sidestepping Opponent

Do I really have to explain this one? Just wait for Kokoro to side step, and
then use H+K to do Helena's spinning move to hit her as she does it.

----------
60. LISA'S BETRAYAL
----------
Helena VS Lisa
Bonus Mission: Escape an OH and Throw

Yep, you guessed it, another simple challenge. Simply duck down to dodge Lisa's
OH (High Offensive), and then counter with a throw.

----------
61. M.I.S.T.
----------
The final part of Helena's story is simply a cutscene that sets up the
beginning of the end. Yep that's right, we are now entering the final chapters
of Dead or Alive 5!

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-19]62-67 Hayate
------------------------------------------------------------------

-HAYATE-

The victim of another of Donovan's schemes. He lost his memory for a time when
he was taken by DOATEC as the object of their research for Project Epsilon.

Once he regained his memory, he led ninja forces as the 18th leader of the
Mugen Tenshin ninja clan to annihilate DOATEC.

Two years have passed.

Hayate receives an invitation from Helena, the president of the newly reformed
DOATEC, and heads for the Freedom Survivor.

----------
62. STRANGE FEELING
----------
The first part of Hayate's story is just another cutscene which serves as the
beginning of the game's ending.

----------
63. MY PREY
----------
Hayate VS Bayman
Bonus Mission: Do 3 Hi Counter Strikes

Remember the triangle system? Well here is where we finish it off. Strikes
beat Throws, and that is all you have to know to finish this mission. Just
counter three Throws with three High Strikes.

----------
64. KASUMI
----------
Hayate VS Kasumi
Bonus Mission: Do 3 Hi Counter Throws

When an enemy uses a hold, grab them with your Throw and that will result in a
Hi Counter throw. Just do this three times to Kasumi, and the mission will be
over.

----------
65. THE FATE OF THE FALSE
----------
Another cutscene showing off just what happened to Kasumi... You really didn't
think that was her did you?

----------
66. EPSLION'S CURSE
----------
Hayate VS Rig
Bonus Mission: Do 2 Hi Counter Holds

Big shocker huh? It's Rig! Aren't things starting to add up now? I mean why
else wouldn't he know his real name, and why would he be the boss on a DOATEC
Platform with a secret M.I.S.T lab on it? Well anyway...

Simply use holds to counter Rig's attacks. By doing them as late as possible
you'll actually pull off a Hi Counter Hold, so practice your timing, and you'll
finish this mission in no time. Rig is pretty strong though, so watch yourself.

----------
67. HAYATE IN DANGER
----------
The ending of Hayate's story... Wonder what's going to happen next?

----------

------------------------------------------------------------------
[A-20]68-71 Kasumi
------------------------------------------------------------------

-TRUE KASUMI-

Ayane reports to Hayabusa about the danger Hayate is in. Hayabusa sends a
messenger to a distant land.

----------
68. HIDDEN VILLAGE
----------
Kasumi VS Christie
Bonus Mission: Land a 2-Hit Combo Juggle

Yeah, that's all you have to do. You've done this hundreds of times by now,
but basically, knock Christie up into the air using 8K, and then hit her twice
with your standard strikes before she hits the ground... "Just Hit P" is right!

Once you beat this fight, you actually unlock Kasumi's Kimono costume.

----------
69. PHASE 4
----------
Kasumi VS Rig
Bonus Mission: Land a 3-Hit Combo Juggle

Same thing as last time, but this time use 236P to knock Rig up into the air.
Really, you should land an 8 or so Hit Combo before he even hits the ground!
Not hard at all.

----------
70. ALPHA
----------
Ryu Hayabusa VS Kasumi Clone
Bonus Mission: Land a 5-Hit Combo Juggle

The same as last time, again, but this time you're Ryu Hayabusa. To pull this
one off just hit 8K to kick them into the air, followed up by PPKKK. It is a
very simple combo, and a very easy mission. (The fight isn't as easy though,
so get ready to give it your all! Or you could just spam 8T... Whichever you
want to do...)

----------
70. ALPHA
----------
Hayate and Ayane VS Kasumi Clone
Bonus Mission: Do a Tag Power Blow

This mission requires you to do a Tag Power Blow, and that means you must get
BOTH Hayate and Ayane down to less than half health, and then hopefully land a
Power Blow to trigger the Power Blow scene. Once this happens, simply just tag
in your partner (H+P+K), and then you've got it.

Just make sure you win the fight or else you'll have to do it again!

----------
71. CODE OF THE SHINOBI
----------
Kasumi VS Bio Weapon
Bonus Mission: Land a Power Blow during a Critical Burst

Ok so this boss actually doesn't have a name, but it is basically the same
"Kasumi Clone" as before, but with a twist... It can transform into any of the
other ninjas at ANY TIME. In other words this boss can actually pull off moves
and combos that would normally be 100% impossible to do. It can combo you as
Ryu, send you flying, transform into Ayane, juggle you for awhile, then switch
over to Hayate and land a few finishing blows. It can be pretty cheap, and it
is a hard fight. The bad news is, you HAVE to let this thing hit you.

As for the mission, you have to land a Power Blow during a Critical Burst. Now
this can be VERY challenging, since you'll have to have your health less than
50% to pull it off, but the thing is, the game really isn't clear on what it
wants you to do.

From the sounds of it, you need to have your health at 50% and land the full
Power Blow like you have in the past, but I actually finished this mission by
just hitting 4P+K. I recommend trying it the easy way first (by getting the
Bio Weapon into Critical Burst and then just hitting it with 4P+K), but if that
doesn't work, then make sure you have less than 50% health, and do an actual
Power Blow.

----------
71. CODE OF THE SHINOBI
----------
Finally you've done it! You have completed all of the battles, and hopefully
all of the bonus missions, and Dead or Alive 5 is finally over! Now you get to
sit back, relax, watch the ending, listen to the credit music, and watch as
the story trophies become unlocked.

It's been a long battle, but it is finally over.

By beating the game, you will unlock Kasumi's black costume.

----------

=============================================================================
[B]Fight
=============================================================================

Outside of the story mode, the "Fight" mode is one of the key elements of
Dead or Alive 5, and is where you will find all of your other standard modes.
Versus Mode, Arcade Mode, Time Attack Mode, Survival Mode, Training Mode, and
even the Command Training.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[B-1]Versus
------------------------------------------------------------------

----------
Fight Settings
----------

Before you actually enter Versus mode, one of the places you might want to
check is the Fight Settings. Here you will be able to set the Computer Player's
level (ranging 1-8), the Max Health settings (Smallest, Small, Normal, Large,
or Largets), the stage Time Limit, how many rounds are in the Solo mode, and
how many rounds are in the Tag mode.

----------
Solo Match
----------

Solo Matches are just what the name implies. These are matches where one
character fights another character to the death. It is the standard versus
mode, and it can be played with either computer players, or with a friend.

----------
Tag Match
----------

A Tag Match works the same way as a Solo Match, but this time around each
player has two characters. You can switch between characters by hitting the
Tag button, or by using a Tag grab. Each Tag Team also has different grabs to
go along with them, so it is best to try out different combos of characters.
(Note: Characters not in battle will be healed over time as well.)

----------
Exhibition Mode
----------
Exhibition Mode is a mode which was added in with the 1.03 patch, and serves as
a way for you to simply pick up the game and start playing. By turning this mode
on, all characters and most of the costumes will be unlocked for you. Apparently
Team Ninja understands that some people would rather just pick up the game and
be able to play as any character from the start without having to spend time
unlocking them, and that is why this mode is here. Still by turning this mode on
you will NOT be able to unlock trophies, titles, or update your fight record.
If you want all of the games features to stay active, you will HAVE to go back,
turn off Exhibition Mode, and unlock everything for yourself.

------------------------------------------------------------------

[B-2]Arcade

------------------------------------------------------------------

The Arcade Mode is the standard single player mode in DoA5 where you pick a
character, and then go up against a series of enemies. As you go through the
Arcade Mode you will gain points based on how well you do, and you can even
unlock costumes for your characters by completing them.

----------
Solo Match
----------

Solo Match is the solo version of arcade mode and it has the following courses

- Rookie
- Easy
- Normal
- Hard
- Champ
- True Fighter
- Master
- Legend

Although for the most part Arcade matches are random, the stage order always
stays the same, and the final boss of each mode will remain the same as well.

----------
Tag Match
----------

The same as Solo Match, but in Tag Match form with two players.

- Rookie
- Easy
- Normal
- Hard
- Champ
- True Fighter
- Master
- Legend

------------------------------------------------------------------
[B-3]Time Attack
------------------------------------------------------------------

Time Attack Mode is the same as Arcade Mode but with one difference. This time
around the goal is to beat the stages as fast as possible. Costumes can be
unlocked by playing Time Attack as well.

----------
Solo Match
----------

Solo Match is the solo version of Time Attack Mode and it has the following
courses

- Rookie
- Easy
- Normal
- Hard
- Champ
- True Fighter
- Master
- Legend

----------
Tag Match
----------

The same as Solo Match, but in Tag Match form with two players.

- Rookie
- Easy
- Normal
- Hard
- Champ
- True Fighter
- Master
- Legend

------------------------------------------------------------------
[B-4]Survival
------------------------------------------------------------------

Just like Arcade and Time Attack, but with a twist. Survival MOde sends enemies
at you one after the other, and your goal is to beat them all and survive till
the end.

Survival Mode doesn't have a Tag Match, but it does have the same Solo courses
to play through as Arcade, and Time Attack.

- Rookie
- Easy
- Normal
- Hard
- Champ
- True Fighter
- Master
- Legend

------------------------------------------------------------------
[B-5]Training
------------------------------------------------------------------

Training Mode is simply there for you to train. You can either train with a
Solo Match, or Tag Match, and you can also either train with another player,
or a computer.

If you pick to fight a computer player, you can then set the following settings

- COM Action (how they fight in battle)
- COM Reaction (how they react to you attacking them)
- COM Options (if they will escape throws, and they will hold or not)
- Counters (how they counter)
- Network Speed (allows you to simulate lag to get used to online play)
- Danger Zones (you can turn them on/off)
- Power Blow (you can turn them on/off)

This mode really is great for you to practice, but the real use for Training
Mode is the "Command Training."

------------------------------------------------------------------
[B-6]Command Training
------------------------------------------------------------------

Command Training is an option in training mode that allows you to go through
all of the moves for each character. The game will show you how to preform each
move, and it is then up to you to do it. By clearing each Command Training you
will actually unlock more System Voices to be used as the announcer.

=============================================================================
[C]Online
=============================================================================

Like with most fighting games, another big part of Dead or Alive 5 is its
online mode.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[C-1]Simple Match
------------------------------------------------------------------

The first option under online is the "Simple Match" option, which, well, allows
you to play a simple match. This will put you in a random, non ranked, and that
is all there is too it.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[C-2]Ranked Match
------------------------------------------------------------------

Ranked Matches are matches where you will gain ranking points for winning, or
lose points for losing. After every so many points you will then rank up to the
next Grade, and once you finally hit B- rank, you will then be able to upload
replays online.

The ranking system goes like this

F
F+
E-
E
E+
D-
D
D+
C-
C
C+
B-
B
B+
A-
A
A+
S-
S
S+

------------------------------------------------------------------
[C-4]Ranked Match
------------------------------------------------------------------

Like with most fighting games, Dead or Alive 5 has some leaderboards, and they
are ALWAYS changing. You can actually filter the leaderboard based on the
region the players are in, or even by how many wins or rank points they have,
but either way, this is where you get to see the top players of DoA5.
------------------------------------------------------------------
[C-5]Fighter List
------------------------------------------------------------------

The Fighter List is the final feature in DoA5's online, and it is used for two
reasons. First of all, whenever you fight someone online you can actually add
them to this list sort of like you would with a friends list, but that isn't
the only thing it does.

By going to your Fighter List you can then send your friends Throwdown
challenges while they are playing other game modes, such as Arcade or Training.
It is a really nice feature, and it is also good to help track others you meet
online, but there is one problem with it. Throwdown challenges CAN be turned
off on almost any menu, and I actually recommend doing so.

If Throwdown Challenges are NOT turned off, the game will always be checking
for an online connection, and that will cause your game to randomly freeze for
a few seconds as it does it. This can be very annoying, and it really hurts the
performance of the game. So anyway, if you don't want the game to be freezing
every few minutes, you better turn them off.

=============================================================================
[D]Extras
=============================================================================

The final option on the main menu is the Extras Menu, and this is where you
will find just about everything else.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[D-1]Spectator
------------------------------------------------------------------

The Spectator Mode is a mode that allows you to either have two computer player
fight eachother, or have a battle, save a replay, and then rewatch it.
Basically the whole point of this mode is to watch battles, and that is about
it.

While watching battles you actually have full control over the camera, you can
pause the action, you can zoom in and zoom out, and you can also take pictures
as well. The only down side is that these pictures are actually saved as their
own save files on the HDD, and that can cause a lot of clutter.

As of patch 1.03 you can also upload your photos to Facebook, or your replays
to YouTube from here.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[D-2]Album
------------------------------------------------------------------

To go along with the Spectator Mode, here is the Album! Yep, that's basically
it. You can view photos you have taken here, and even unlock a free trophy for
doing so.

As of patch 1.03 you can also now upload your photos to Facebook.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[D-3]Fight Record
------------------------------------------------------------------

The Fight Record is another important part of Dead or Alive, but you can also
completely ignore it. Basically this is just a record of EVERYTHING you have
done in the game, from how many times you've won, to how many times you've done
a low kick. It's really just an extra to help keep track of your Dead or Alive
life.

------------------------------------------------------------------

[D-4]Mission List

------------------------------------------------------------------

The final feature in the Extras menu is the Mission List which shows you a list
of every single title in the game, and how to unlock them. This is also the
screen which allows you to equip two titles to your online profile which will
show up at the start of every match.

Below is a list of all 524 missions, and how to obtain them.

=============================================================================
[E]Stages and Danger Zones
=============================================================================

Each stage in Dead or Alive 5 is actually broken up into smaller "stages" and
most of them also have a brand new feature called a "Danger Zone." A Danger
Zone is basically a special change which happens in the stage whenever you do
some sort of set action. These actions can range from knocking the other fighter
into a wall, or by using a special move at a set time. Below is a list of stages
and the list of Danger Zones which can be pulled off in said stages.

Also please keep in mind that there are actually a lot of "small" Danger Zones
in each stage, but these are basically limited to knocking someone into a wall
or knocking them into a breakable pot. I will not be listing these in the FAQ
simply because they really aren't anything special.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-1]SCRAMBLE
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Scramble stage starts you out on top of an unfinished building. There are
power boxes and steel beams against the walls of the stage, and by knocking
someone into them you will pull off the stage's Danger Zone. In this Danger
Zone the stage begins to fall over, and everthing leans toward one side. At
this point you can then knock the other fighter off of the building to the
area below.

The second part of the Scrambe Stage is the wreckage below the building. Cars
go flying, beams fall, and the entire area is boxed in by burning wreckage.
Although there is no Danger Zone here, extra damage can be caused by knocking
your enemy into the wreckage; sometimes beams or cars will even fall on them
if you hit them into the right spot.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-2]HOT ZONE
------------------------------------------------------------------
Hot Zone is a battlefield. Getting knocked into a wall will cause you to get
hit by RPGs, you can be knocked into a moving tank, and you can also be knocked
over sand bags into other sections of the stage. This is also where the Danger
Zone can be found. In the second "section" of the battlefield a chopper will
fly overhead for a few seconds. If you can pull off a Power Blow during this
time, you will send your enemy flying into it, which will then cause it to
crash. Now this Danger Zone does actually limit the battlefield, and the
chopper will crash in the final section of the stage even if you don't pull it
off.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-3]TEMPLE OF THE DRAGON
------------------------------------------------------------------
Temple of the Dragon is, well, a Japanese Temple. Each room is square shaped
with a verity of different ways to harm your enemy. You can knock them through
the floor by using moves that will cause them to fall down, you can knock
them down the stairs, or you can even throw them through the window which will
then cause you to end up in a "second" stage. Its a pretty interactive stage,
but chances are most fights will end up in the Sakura stage.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-4]SAKURA
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Sakura stage is the outside of the Temple of the Dragon, and it can either
be selected from the stage select screen, or by knocking someone out of the
window in the temple. This stage doesn't have any type of special area effects
or Danger Zones (besides knocking someone into a bell), but it is a VERY nice
looking stage! The entire stage is filled with Sakura trees as the pink leaves
blow in the wind. Although the stage is just a simple square boxed in area, it
is still a nice square boxed in area.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-5]THE SHOW
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Show is, well, a circus. Clowns bounce and jump around the outside of the
stage, and a huge clown head opens and closes its mouth at one end. To pull off
this Danger Zone all you have to do is use a Power Blow to send your enemy
flying into the clown's mouth.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-6]THE TIGER SHOW
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Tiger Show is just another verison of The Show, but this time there are
tigers and fire hoops.Really there isn't too much different here, but its
Danger Zone has you knocking the other fighter flying, as the Tigers jump
and hit them.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-7]COMING SOON
------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, that's actually the name of the stage! This stage was basically just used
for a part of the story, but you can still fight in it in stage select. Really
all this stage is, is an unopened version of The Show. Everything is still being
set up, and there really isn't anything special about this stage at all.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-8]FLOW
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Flow stage takes place on a raft, and it also has a very nice Danger Zone!
By smacking someone into the edge of the raft, you can actually break the raft
free which will then cause it float down the river toward a waterfall. Now you
can either just stay and fight on this raft, but it is also possible to knock
someone off of it down to the area below which becomes the Primal stage.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-9]PRIMAL
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Primal stage is what's at the bottom of the waterfall in the Flow stage.
Here animals watch you fight in the middle of the jungle! Basically this is the
stage which replaced the older jungle/forest areas from past Dead or Alive
games.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-10]STREET
------------------------------------------------------------------
The first part of the Street stage has you on top of a building. Here you can
knock people into water towers, knock them into the steel guarding, into a wall,
or even into a huge neon sign in the front of the building; this is how you
activate the stage's Danger Zone! Once the sign has taken enough damage, it will
fall to the street below, cause a train to crash, and then send the train flying
toward the top of the building. At this point the train becomes a part of the
battle field, and it will also follow you to the second part of the street as
well.

By throwing someone off the edge of the building, you'll enter the back alley
behind the building. If you activated the Danger Zone in the first part of the
stage the train will actually fall down to this area as well, and that can be
used for extra damage.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-11]THE ENDS OF THE EARTH
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Ends of the Earth is the artic stage of the game, and it is a never ending
stage as well! Although this stage is basically an open icey area, there is a
cliff at two ends of the stage, and it never ends. Each area you fall down two
will have two more cliffs, and as time goes on you will slowly start to see that
the stage is a never ending loop. Perfect if you like getting extra fall damage!

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-12]HOME
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Home stage is actually one of the biggest stages in the entire game, and
it has MANY different rooms and effects! Basically the Home stage is a large
circle which loops around an outside inner area, and you can make use of that.
Each room allows you to knock the other fighter through the walls into the next
room, and you can also send them falling through the floor to the rooms below!
There are actually many different rooms to send your enemy flying into, but
you will either end up in the basement if you go down far enough, or you will
be able to knock them flying out the window to the outside area.

The outside area also has many different objects which can be broken, but for
the most part, this area is completely boxed in. It is basically the final
area of the stage, just like the basement is.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-13]FUEL
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Fuel stage takes place on an oil rig, and it is filled with explosives!
While the stage starts out on an upper area, you can get knocked down to the
ground below. Just like with the past few stages, its Danger Zones are basically
limited to changing areas, and knocking each other into objects around the
outside of the stage.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-14]SANCTUARY
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Sanctuary is basically an old temple filled with rocks, and some burning
tourches. The area is a wide open area, but Danger Zones are once again limited
to area effects. Really this stage doesn't offer anything special, other than
the fact that it is a new area to fight in.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-15]DEPTH
------------------------------------------------------------------
Depth is a moving elevator which is always going up without ever reaching the'
top. In this stage there are electric fences around the outside, as well as
some machines which appear to be whats pulling the elevator up. If you knock
someone into one of these machines the elevator will then fall, and pieces of it
will come crashing down with you. This is when the Danger Zone activates, and
you can use a power blow to knock someone into the falling chunks of metal.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-16]DOJO
------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the training stage. The background is black, and you fight in a never
ending stage with nothing but green tiles. There ARE NO Danger Zones, and
there are NO walls to knock each other into. This stage is an endless void, and
one of the stages you can actually take out of the random search if you don't
like it. Some characters can also use this stage to their advantage, so you
might want to think about it before you select this stage. (Darn you Kokoro...)

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-17]LAB
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Lab stage replaces the other Dead or Alive Lab stages. Just like the others
the floor is electric here, the walls are electric, and it is just a simple
wide open area in the shape of a circle. Characters with a lot of knock down
attacks can use this stage to their advantage for some easy wins.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-18]DEAD OR ALIVE
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Dead or Alive stage is a simple open fighting ring used in the story for
Dead or Alive 5. In truth it is the helipad with an electric fence thrown in,
and a stage set up around it.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-19]ARRIVAL
------------------------------------------------------------------
This stage is a part of the Dead or Alive stage, but it must be slected (just
like The Show's extra stages). This one is the helipad from the Dead or Alive
stage, but without the viewing stage set up around it, and without the electric
fence.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-20]SWEAT
------------------------------------------------------------------
Sweat is just a simple boxing ring set up inside a training gym. That's all it
really is, and the only thing you can really do here is knock people into the
side of the ring. It is a very basic stage which goes along with the new
character Milia.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-21]FIGHTING ENTERTAINMENT
------------------------------------------------------------------
This is basically a larger version of Sweat, but with an electric fence.
It is simply just a large wrestling ring, and it is the stage that goes along
with Bass and Tina.

------------------------------------------------------------------
[E-22]ZACK ISLAND
------------------------------------------------------------------
A newly added in stage by the 1.03 patch. This stage is Zack's Island which
he bought and set up for the Dead or Alive Xtreme games. While the stage
really doesn't have anything special, it is VERY nice looking, and has some
nice tropical music playing in the background! The entire stage takes place
on the beach and shoreline of the island, with familiar areas being seen in
the background.

[H]Fighting Game Tips and Mechanics
=============================================================================

Are you new to Dead or Alive 5, or fighting games in general? Have a question
about DoA5 that isn't covered here in the FAQ? Well here's a few little tips to
help you on your way!

----------
Combo Inputs/Input Delay:
----------
One thing a lot of newer fighting game new comers don't know about is how the
game actually picks up their button inputs. Although one might think that they
will have to wait before inputting the next part of their combo, that actually
isn't true! Now, what do I mean by this? Well picture this.

Say you are hitting P for punch, and you follow it up with two more punches;
how do you do it? Well most new comers to fighting games might think they have
to wait for the first punch animation to end before they can hit punch again for
the second hit; however that isn't true! The game actually records your button
presses even as YOUR CHARACTER IS THROWING THE FIRST PUNCH! Basically if you hit
"PPP" as fast as possible and your character is still in the middle of the first
punch, the second two will still follow it. So, how is this helpful? Well for
comboing! What else?

Basically when you pull off a combo or a move that requires more than one button
combo to pull off, you want to do it as fast as you can WHILE your other moves
animations are still playing! That way your combos will actually be combos, and
will not leave split second gaps which may allow the other player to escape.
Sure you can still wait for each animation to play out before you hit the next
set of button inputs, but there's no way a human hand can move faster than your
video game console (which has already recorded what you wanted to do).

So in short, hit buttons before the animations play if you want them to be true
combos without leaving any openings for your enemy to escape.

----------
Invincibility Frames:
----------

If you know anything about game design, or if you know anything about animation,
then you would know that everything animated has "frames." A frame, in short is
each movement/step in an animation of something, and many different frames make
up the entire animation. To put it simple, it is, well, a flip book. Each page
is a different picture, and as you flip through the book it looks like it moves.
Animations in games are no different, but in fighting games there's a bit more
too it than meets the eye.

Although you may not realize it at first, there are actually some frames in the
animations called "invincibility frames." These are frames in your character's
movements where they CANNOT be harmed! These frames show up for a split second
during different set moves, and if you know how to use them, you'll have a
pretty big advantage over the other players. As you play Dead or Alive 5, make
sure to keep an eye out for these invincibility frames so you'll both know when
you can attack, and when you can use a move to protect yourself. It's really not
an easy system to master, but if you're aware of it, you have a better chance of
learning how to use it!

----------
Hit Boxes:
----------

Hit Boxes are another very important aspect when it comes to video games, but
even more so when it comes to fighting games! To put it simply, every character
or enemy in every single game has both a 3D model/2D sprite and a hit box.
While the 3D model of the character or 2D sprite is simply what the character
looks like/what you'll be seeing in the game, there is also a hit box hidden
behind them as well.

A Hit Box is what detects the character's damage, and general contact with the
area around them. Although you might expect a character's body to be solid
box, that actually isn't true! Not every part of a character's body is actually
a "solid" object, and not every part of their body can actually detect points of
contact.

Now I know this may sound very confusing, but stay with me here, and let me use
an example. For this example I want you to think back on games you have played
in the past; any game at all! It can be a 2D side scroller, action game, or even
a first person shooter; anything will work! Now have you ever noticed anything
strange about that character? Did you ever notice how in a 2D platformer your
characters foot might sometimes go through a platform, or how you don't take any
damage when your clothing gets taped or even your hair? What about in shooters?
Has your gun ever been shot without you taking damage? Well that's because
them parts of the character's body are NOT solid and they do NOT have hit boxes!

So, what does this all mean? Well it means that just because you can see a solid
object, doesn't mean it is actually a "solid" object. Hair, clothing, the edges
of a character's body, and sometimes even areas within a character's body may
not actually be solid. They don't have a hit box in them areas, so them areas
cannot actually be used to cause damage. This is very important when it comes
to fighting games, and it is very important that you learn where character's
hit boxes truly are. These boxes actually change and move with the different
frames/attack animations as well, so you really have to learn where you can
or can't hit someone.

Once again I would like to remind you that hit boxes are NOT seen by the player
who is playing the game, but are rather a part of the coding that is at work
behind the scenes. If you want to figure out where a character's hit boxes are
you actually have to learn yourself. If you can master this system, just like
with the invincibility frames, you will have an advantage over other players.
Not only will you be able to block enemy attacks, you will also be able to
counter back when the timing is right.

----------
Canceling:
----------

This actually goes hand in hand with combos, but it is another very important
aspect for fighting games. You see, every single attack in a fighting game has
a "full attack animation," but that can actually be cut short by using something
called "canceling." To sum it up, canceling is done by using a move/attack that
will interrupt the previous move you used to cut the animation short/stop the
move all together. By canceling a move, you can actually use combos that would
not normally work with your last string of moves.

Although this is a tricky system to master, or even understand, once you start
to learn more about it, you'll slowly start to learn how to master it. Still
canceling is just what it sounds like. It cancels your last move which then
allows you to start a new combo right away without any wait time. Every
character has different moves which can be used to cancel other moves, so really
it's up to you to just play around, and find out what works best for you and
your character of choice. Try Dash Canceling (by dashing after you use moves),
and just try adding in different moves to your combos.
